Mood Disorders

YOU ARE NOT ALONE

Navigate Mood Disorders with Compassionate, Licensed Therapists

Everyone experiences changes in mood from time to time, but when emotional highs or lows become persistent, intense, or begin interfering with daily life, they may be signs of a mood disorder. Mood disorders can affect how you think, feel, and interact with others, making everyday responsibilities, relationships, school, or work feel more challenging.

You may notice yourself or your loved one feeling persistently sad, losing interest in activities, experiencing significant mood swings, or struggling to regulate emotions. At Genesis Counseling, we provide Mood Disorder therapy for children, teens, and adults, helping clients better understand their symptoms while developing healthy coping strategies that support long-term emotional wellness and stability.

We offer therapy in Boca Raton, Coral Springs, Delray Beach, Pembroke Pines, Pompano Beach, and Wellington, as well as virtual therapy throughout Florida.

OUR MISSION IS SIMPLE

Signs You May Benefit from Mood Disorder Therapy

Mood disorders affect each person differently and can range from ongoing depression to significant fluctuations in mood and energy. Symptoms may develop gradually or become more noticeable during periods of stress or life change.

You may notice:

  • Persistent sadness, hopelessness, or emptiness
  • Frequent mood swings or emotional highs and lows
  • Loss of interest in hobbies or activities once enjoyed
  • Changes in sleep or appetite
  • Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
  • Low energy or ongoing fatigue
  • Increased irritability or emotional sensitivity
  • Difficulty managing daily responsibilities

These symptoms can affect relationships, school, work, and overall quality of life, but effective treatment can help individuals regain stability and confidence.

When It May Be Time to Seek Mood Disorder Support

If changes in mood are lasting longer than expected or beginning to interfere with daily functioning, therapy can provide valuable support. Early treatment often helps reduce symptoms while improving emotional resilience and overall well-being.

Support may be helpful if:

  • Mood changes are affecting work, school, or relationships
  • Sadness or emotional highs and lows feel difficult to manage
  • Daily responsibilities have become increasingly challenging
  • Emotional symptoms are impacting your quality of life

What to Expect from Therapy

Therapy provides a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where clients can better understand their emotions, identify patterns, and develop practical strategies for managing symptoms. Treatment focuses on improving emotional awareness while building skills that promote long-term stability.

Depending on your needs, therapy may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Therapy, emotional regulation techniques, and healthy coping strategies. Clients experiencing anxiety alongside mood disorders may also benefit from our Anxiety Treatment services. Those who struggle with overwhelming stress may find additional support through our Stress Management & Burnout therapy. When appropriate, psychiatry and medication management may also be recommended as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.

Our therapists work collaboratively with each client to create an individualized treatment plan based on their unique experiences, goals, and strengths.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I choose the right therapist?

Finding the right therapist is essential for a successful therapy experience. At Genesis Counseling, our Intake Team carefully matches clients with a therapist based on their presenting concerns, goals, and preferences. Our therapists have diverse specialties, credentials, and training to ensure personalized care for children, teens, adults, couples, and families. We offer therapy at our Coral Springs, Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Palm Aire Pompano and Wellington locations, as well as virtual therapy across Florida. What should I expect in my first therapy session?

Your first session at Genesis Counseling is an intake appointment, where your therapist will gather important background information to better understand your needs. Whether you’re seeking therapy for yourself, your child, or your family, this session will focus on:

1. Discussing your history and what led you to seek therapy.
2. Identifying your concerns and goals for treatment.
3. Developing a personalized treatment plan to guide your progress.
4. Confirming scheduling and session frequency moving forward.

Our therapists create a safe, supportive environment to help you feel comfortable sharing your experiences.

Does Genesis offer virtual therapy or telehealth sessions?

Yes! Genesis Counseling offers HIPAA-compliant virtual therapy for children, teens, adults, couples, and families across Florida. All of our licensed therapists provide secure and confidential telehealth sessions, allowing you to receive high-quality mental health care from the comfort of your home.

During your intake scheduling, our team will provide all the necessary information on how to access virtual sessions. Telehealth is a convenient option for those with busy schedules, transportation challenges, or a preference for remote care.

Does Genesis provide sliding-scale payment options?

We understand that financial circumstances vary. Select providers within our practice may offer reduced-fee or sliding scale counseling services based on availability and individual circumstances.

If cost is a concern, please contact our office to discuss available options. We are committed to helping clients access the mental health support they need.

What is a mood disorder?

Mood disorders are mental health conditions that primarily affect a person’s emotional state. Common mood disorders include depression and bipolar disorder, though symptoms and experiences vary from person to person.

Can therapy help with mood disorders?

Yes. Therapy helps individuals better understand their emotions, develop healthy coping skills, improve daily functioning, and manage symptoms more effectively.

Do mood disorders always require medication?

Not always. Many individuals benefit from therapy alone, while others may benefit from combining therapy with medication. Your therapist can help determine the treatment approach that best fits your needs.

Does Genesis Counseling accept insurance?
