Social Skills

YOU ARE NOT ALONE

Navigate Social Skills with Compassionate, Licensed Therapists

Building meaningful relationships is an important part of emotional well-being, but social interactions don’t always come naturally. Some children, teens, and adults struggle with starting conversations, reading social cues, making friends, or feeling confident in social settings. These challenges can lead to loneliness, anxiety, frustration, and difficulty forming lasting relationships.

You may notice yourself or your child avoiding social situations, struggling to maintain friendships, feeling uncomfortable in group settings, or worrying about saying the wrong thing. At Genesis Counseling, we provide Social Skills therapy that helps clients strengthen communication, build confidence, and develop practical interpersonal skills that support success at school, work, home, and within the community.

We offer therapy in Boca Raton, Coral Springs, Delray Beach, Pompano Beach, and Wellington, as well as virtual therapy throughout Florida.

Signs You May Benefit from Social Skills Therapy

Social challenges can affect people of all ages and may occur alongside anxiety, autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, or other emotional concerns. Therapy helps identify specific areas of difficulty while building practical skills for everyday interactions.

You may notice:

  • Difficulty starting or maintaining conversations
  • Trouble making or keeping friends
  • Feeling anxious in social situations
  • Difficulty understanding social cues or body language
  • Avoiding group activities or social events
  • Feeling isolated or disconnected from others
  • Difficulty resolving conflicts in relationships
  • Low confidence during social interactions

These challenges can affect school, work, relationships, and overall self-confidence, but they can improve with the right support.

When it may be time to seek support

Therapy may be beneficial when social challenges begin affecting relationships, emotional well-being, academic success, or workplace interactions. Developing stronger interpersonal skills can improve confidence while creating healthier, more meaningful relationships.

Support may be helpful if:

  • Making or maintaining friendships feels difficult
  • Social anxiety is limiting participation in activities
  • Communication challenges are affecting relationships
  • Social situations regularly create stress or emotional discomfort

What to Expect from Social Skills Therapy

Therapy focuses on helping clients build confidence while learning practical communication and relationship-building skills. Sessions provide opportunities to better understand social situations, improve emotional awareness, and practice strategies that can be applied in everyday life.

Depending on your needs, therapy may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), communication skills training, role-playing exercises, emotional regulation strategies, and confidence-building techniques. Individuals experiencing excessive worry in social settings may also benefit from our Anxiety Treatment services. Clients diagnosed with autism may find additional support through our Autism Spectrum Support services, while those working to improve confidence in relationships may also benefit from our Self-Esteem therapy.

Every treatment plan is individualized to help clients develop meaningful social connections while feeling more comfortable and confident in everyday interactions.

What should I expect in my first therapy session?

Your first session at Genesis Counseling is an intake appointment, where your therapist will gather important background information to better understand your needs. Whether you’re seeking therapy for yourself, your child, or your family, this session will focus on:

1. Discussing your history and what led you to seek therapy.
2. Identifying your concerns and goals for treatment.
3. Developing a personalized treatment plan to guide your progress.
4. Confirming scheduling and session frequency moving forward.

Our therapists create a safe, supportive environment to help you feel comfortable sharing your experiences.
