Healing From Trauma with Compassionate, Trauma-Informed Care

Trauma can change the way you think, feel, relate to others, and experience the world around you. Even after the event has passed, the emotional and physical effects of trauma may continue to affect your daily life, relationships, work, and overall well-being.

You may feel constantly on edge, disconnected from others, overwhelmed by memories, or unsure why certain situations trigger intense emotional or physical reactions. These responses are not signs of weakness. They are common responses to experiences that overwhelmed your ability to cope.

At Genesis Counseling, we provide trauma-informed therapy that helps adults process difficult experiences, reduce the impact of trauma, and begin moving forward at a pace that feels safe and manageable.

We offer trauma and PTSD therapy in Boca Raton, Coral Springs, Delray Beach, Pompano Beach, and Wellington, as well as virtual therapy throughout Florida.

OUR MISSION IS SIMPLE

to help you heal, therapy designed around you.

Understanding Trauma and PTSD

Trauma is not defined solely by what happened. It is also shaped by how your mind and body responded to the experience.

Trauma can result from a single event or repeated experiences over time. Some individuals develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), while others experience trauma-related symptoms without meeting the full criteria for PTSD.

Experiences that may lead to trauma include:

  • Physical assault
  • Sexual assault or sexual abuse
  • Childhood abuse or neglect
  • Domestic violence
  • Medical trauma
  • Serious accidents
  • Military combat
  • Natural disasters
  • Sudden loss of a loved one
  • Witnessing violence
  • Ongoing emotional abuse

No two people respond to trauma the same way. Your experiences are valid regardless of how they compare to someone else’s.

Common Signs of Trauma and PTSD

Trauma affects both the mind and body.

You may experience:

  • Intrusive memories
  • Flashbacks
  • Nightmares
  • Feeling constantly alert or on edge
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Anxiety or panic
  • Emotional numbness
  • Irritability
  • Difficulty trusting others
  • Avoiding reminders of traumatic experiences
  • Feeling disconnected from yourself or others
  • Difficulty concentrating

These symptoms can affect relationships, work, parenting, and many aspects of everyday life.

Sexual Trauma Recovery

Experiencing sexual trauma can have a profound impact on emotional, physical, and psychological well-being. Survivors often experience feelings of fear, shame, guilt, anger, anxiety, or difficulty trusting others. These reactions are common responses to trauma and do not define who you are.

Healing after sexual trauma looks different for everyone. Some individuals seek therapy shortly after an experience, while others begin the healing process years later. There is no right timeline for seeking support.

At Genesis Counseling, our therapists provide compassionate, trauma-informed care in a safe, nonjudgmental environment. Therapy can help you process your experiences, rebuild a sense of safety, strengthen healthy coping skills, and move toward healing at your own pace.

You are always in control of your treatment. Therapy is never about forcing you to relive painful experiences. Instead, it is about helping you feel supported as you process trauma in a way that feels safe and empowering.

Childhood Trauma

Early life experiences often shape how we view ourselves, relationships, and the world around us.

Adults who experienced childhood trauma may continue to experience anxiety, difficulty trusting others, low self-esteem, emotional dysregulation, or relationship challenges long after childhood has ended.

Trauma therapy helps individuals better understand these patterns while developing healthier ways to cope, build relationships, and move forward.

Your therapist will work with you to determine the most appropriate approach based on your experiences and goals.

What to Expect During Trauma Therapy

Beginning trauma therapy can feel intimidating, but healing starts with creating a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship.

Your first sessions focus on understanding your experiences, learning how trauma affects the brain and body, and developing coping strategies that help you feel emotionally grounded.

As therapy progresses, you and your therapist will move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. There is never pressure to discuss experiences before you are ready.

Our goal is to help you feel empowered throughout every step of the healing process.

Psychiatry and Medication Management

Some individuals experiencing trauma or PTSD may benefit from medication alongside therapy to help manage symptoms such as anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, or panic.

Genesis Counseling offers psychiatry and medication management services when appropriate, allowing clients to receive coordinated care under one practice.

When to Seek Trauma Therapy

You may benefit from trauma therapy if you:

  • Experience intrusive memories or flashbacks
  • Avoid situations that remind you of a traumatic event
  • Feel constantly anxious or on edge
  • Have difficulty trusting others
  • Experience nightmares or sleep difficulties
  • Feel emotionally numb or disconnected
  • Have experienced sexual trauma, abuse, or other traumatic events that continue to affect your daily life

You do not need to wait until symptoms become overwhelming to seek support. Healing can begin whenever you are ready.
